good area to live in NYC easy to commute to Newark?
want to move to nyc, and work at newark airport. where would be a good area to live and not make my commute a nightmare? I origianlly wanted to look into the bronx and other subs to save on money, but by looking at a map it seems it would be difficult? so I'm guessing lower man. but have heard the area is bad? Also considered Jersey City but read not to walk after 6 and that kinda scares me. any advice will help!

If you look on this map http://www.njtransit.com/images/railmap06.jpg You will see that North East Corridor and North Jersey Coast line trains stop at the Airport Station, that will help your commute a great deal. These New Jersey Transit buses also stop at the airport itself # 40, 62, 67.

Look at the path tran and you can probably live anywhere along there (or even Hoboken). I think you will be able to get a cheap/free ticket on the airtrain (or whatever it is called) that will take you from newark penn station to the airport. So either look in Chelsea or down by the WTC site (not many places to live there near the path).

Why deal with the tolls and expense of moving back and forth? If Jersey City doesn't work for you, try Hoboken. From Hoboken, you can easily make it to NYC multiple ways

One time i bought a Helio Ocean and i thought it will work in Delaware but did not and i dont wanna waste money on the same thing again. So will it work in the Newark,Delaware area.

No, verizon doesn't use a SIM card. The LG Voyager is used for verizon wireless only cause it's programed like that.

The newest areas for Metro PCS and Cricket are both called Trimode areas. This is a new type of phone with three cellular channels instead of the two you find on flashed phones and older Metro /Cricket phones. Metro and Cricket's older two channel phones and flashed phones will NOT work in the newer trimode areas except in roaming mode, which is way more expensive then unlimited. The phones don't have the third channel which is the only one that Metro/Cricket's new places have. A trimode phone will work in ALL Metro/Cricket areas new or old. An old dual channel will only work in the older areas. Call your local Metro dealer in Newark Delaware and ask them if they are trimode or not . The only phones that can be flashed to trimode areas are other trimodes obviously. That would mean Cricket phones would be the only flashable option in a Metro trimode area. Good luck.Hopefully its dual channel/band. Both the Helio Ocean and Voyage are on the list of flashable phones for Metro and Cricket for their older markets. But talk/text only unless you find an independent who can give you full flash

moving to Newark to work in NYC - other possible areas for me?
my cousin and I want to get an apartment near Newark and NYC....she will be teaching in newark and going to Seton Hall at nite. I will be getting a job in NYC. where is the BEST and safest place for us to live - we could probably afford $1200 a month in rent/utilities.....also, I have no car so I will be using pub. trans. to get to work in NYC...any advice on this? If she has a car and you don't then I wold not suggest Newark at all! If she doesn't mind the commute, public transportation wise, Hackensack is excellent. I lived there for about 4 years. Its centrally located to all of the major highways and its a lot safer than Newark.

Jersey City. Make sure you are more or less near the PATH route. Much of JC is safe and homey and an easy commute to both Newark and NYC.

there are different areas in newark that aren't bad... all these ppl that say stay away from newark probably haven't lived there... i have for the past four years, and as long as u know where to live it's not bad... the section of newark is a great place, but a little pricier than the other sections... if you are interested in a two bedroom apartment, i'm not sure you'll find one as cheap as 1200 a month without utilities... around branchbrook park, there are also very nice neighborhoods in newark... other than that, the university heights/downtown area is the most safe to live...best of luck finding a place

What is the best place to live if I work in Newark, NJ?
Hi, I am looking to move out on my own. I work in Newark, NJ and makes about $50,000 a year. However, given the high real estate/rental price in NJ, I am having trouble finding a place (I figure I can only spend $1,200 a month for rent). Anyone has suggestion as where is the best place to live in the area? I am in my late 20s and single. I am having trouble finding roommates to share costs too. This is really a terrible situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not for nothing but there isn't a nice place to live in Newark, NJ. Outside of the areas right over the river and just outside NYC, NJ is the arm pit of the east coast! Do yourself a favor and move to the Philly or NYC burbs!

Go to http://newjersey.craigslist.org/ and click on apts/housing. I just looked and there are tons of places to rent in your price range. If you have a car then there are plenty of areas to look at. If you don't have a car then you can look for a place that's near the NJ Transit train line or bus routes.

$1,200 is too much for someone who makes 50k a year. You shouldn't be paying over $1,000. Remember, you will need renters insurance and utilities on top of the rent. If you work in the Ironbound district, you will want to live where there is PATH train access if you aren't planning on living right in Newark. That leaves Kearny, Jersey City and Hoboken. In Kearny you will need a car. Hoboken is more expensive than Jersey City, but you can get a real nice share there on your budget. Same thing with Jersey City and Newark. Depending on how much time you have, you could also get a nice studio or perhaps even a one bedroom on that budget. It will take a lot of looking to get a one bedroom for that price, but if you aren't in a rush it can be done. They go fast, so check the listings a few times a day. Look on craigslist and in the local papers. The craigslist prices for Jersey City, Newark and Hoboken tend to be inflated when it comes to rentals. I have seen some real pits advertised like they were a great deal at $1,400. FYI, if you live in an owner-occupied building with 3 or less units (that means a 2 or 3 family house where the owner lives in one of the units), you have less rights under the Anti-Eviction Act in NJ than if the premises were not owner occupied or a larger building, owner occupied or not.

Atlanta, Georgia is the best place to live. There are plenty of jobs here. Especially corporate and high tech jobs. You can make $50,000 and get a fabulous place from $800-1,200 per month and live very comfortably. There's a lot to do socially such as concerts, festivals, museums, seminars, restaurants, parks, clubs, sporting events etc... The only draw back is the traffic. It's awful...but that's with any large city. Atlanta is a gold mine full of opportunities for those who are driven and ambitious
