I am not familiar with the details of Newark, but from what I understand there are some pretty rough sections, so you'll want advice from the people you're working with. One thing I can tell you about is that there is definitely public transportation into NYC. There are a couple of different options, but there are trains from Newark right into the heart of Manhattan via Penn Station.
Answer 2 :
I worked and travelled through Newark for years. Newark is not a great place to be at night. They do have the greatest Portuguese restaurants in the entire USA, but if you are going to be there a month and you decide to stay in Newark, you'll be in your hotel room at night fall or earlier. Here is what I would do if I were you. Stay at the Gateway Hilton in Newark. I assume you'll be working somewhere near the Gateway Center, so its easy to get to and from work. You are walking distance and all enclosed to the train station to quickly jump a train (15 minutes or less) into New York City (take NJ Transit for mid-town, PATH for downtown). You can then jump a train back to Newark Penn Station from NY and not even have to go outside to get back to the Hotel. In Newark, you should try to get to some of the restaurants as well as there is a minor league baseball team (newark bears) if you like to take in a game. Highly suggest not wandering the streets of Newark. Its not the safest place to be if you aren't familiar with the area!

Well, I admire you in asking that question. It is very profound! Well you are an excellent guy! Thank you for asking! Good description and explanation

About Rutgers Business School-Newark vs New Brunswick job prospects. Employers welcomed too

Rutgers Business School-Newark vs New Brunswick job prospects. Employers welcomed too.?
I know many people have asked this question already, but answers to those questions have to do primarily with the campus life and the fact that many applicant apply for the New Brunswick campus (hence, more favorable answers toward NB). My question is which Rutgers Business School is better in terms of job prospect and academically? I know that Rutgers-New Brunswick has better things to substantiate the view of the New Brunswick Business School (bigger, dorms, life, and larger applicant body), but does all this matter when you are looking for a job? From what I hear, Newark is easier to get into, but it has some same professors as New Brunswick. Lets say somebody graduated with a 3.5 at Newark. Is that the same as 3.5 from New Brunswick? After all, the two business schools are the same. The reason I'm asking is because I work near Newark but live close to New Brunswick. I'll be applying for them in a year or so. Honest and non-bias answers are greatly appreciate.

Umm yeah the words "Newark" and "safe" should not be used in the same sentence. Camden, Trenton and Newark all made the top 25 Most Dangerous Cities list: http://www.morganquitno.com/cit07pop.htm
Answer 2 :
Well I live in New Jersey. Newark I'm not so sure about but South Orange is a nice little town. Yeah you can take the NJ Transit to NYC. What I suggest (for both NY and NJ is to just research the area on the internet). NYC is so huge. Just walk out of the subway and there's stuff to do. Hey thats kinda cool I know a kid from Louisville, KY. We go to the same college!
Answer 3 :
I agree with the first guy. I hope this job pays well. Please be careful, always have something you could use for protection and a cell phone. Study local street maps to become familiar with your surroundings

The main district where most of the big companies are located isn't too bad, but don't wander far.
Answer 2 :
I worked in Elizabeth, NJ for almost 3 years. When I started I was nervous about the area, but after a short time I realized that it's actually not so bad. I was actually looking at houses in Newark until I was laid off. There are good and bad areas all over. Newark is the same. Any of the business districts will be fine. If I was you I'd take a test commute there a couple times. Go once during morning rush and once after the afternoon rush to check out the area, see who's around, etc. I really doubt you'd have a problem, but if you're not comfortable you won't get much out of your internship
